The affluent and quaint unincorporated city of Kensington is located in Contra Costa County, on the hillside between Berkeley and El Cerrito. At its western border is the city of Albany, another darling city in the East Bay. One of the area’s finest shopping districts, Colusa Circle, is located in the western area of Kensington, near Albany and El Cerrito. Kensinton’s location on the hill atop these three cities therefore adds convenience, as well as a sense of retreat and repose for the resident.
The area is mostly residential, but along with Colusa Circle, the more central shopping street is Arlington Avenue, which is the main business district and thoroughfare for Kensington. Homes in the community mostly date back to the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s, and real estate was built with the location in mind: residents enjoy panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. Streets are also classically tree-lined, and parks are woodsy and tranquil. Because of the beauty and appeal of this neighborhood, Real estate in Kensington is very coveted.
The community is served by the West Contra Costa Unified School District, which boasts the highly rated Kensington Elementary School. There are also many private schools nearby to choose from. Favorite local spots include Tilden Park, Blake Botanical Garden and the Sunday morning farmer’s market at Kensington Circle on Arlington. Eateries include Benchmark Pizzeria, Kensington Circus Pub and the Inn Kensington for a morning brunch with the family.
