Adams Point sits at the northern portion of Lake Merritt and is sandwiched between Downtown Oakland and the Grand Lake District on either side. The neighborhood is formed in a triangular shape, bound by the major thoroughfares of Grand Avenue, Harrison Street and the 580/MacArthur Freeway. There is much to be said for the convenience of this neighborhood in its vicinity to public transit, freeway access and amenities, and those who are drawn to the neighborhood enjoy the active and social atmosphere near the Lake.
The area is mixed commercial and residential with much of the housing being condominium and apartment buildings, as well as house-style duplexes and single-family houses. The neighborhood is laden with historic Oakland landmarks such as the Art Deco Bellevue-Staten Building, Lakeside Park, Children’s Fairyland, and of course the Lake Merritt walking path. The area is served by the Oakland Unified School District and houses one of Oakland’s few Montessori schools: Grand Lake Montessori.
