Known in recent years to be Oakland’s best entertainment district, Uptown is located in bustling downtown Oakland: roughly from 27th street to the North, Oakland City Center to the South, and Harrison Street to the East.
Uptown is a neighborhood for the city lover who enjoys working hard and playing harder. Here you can find after-work happy hour drinks and a game of bocce ball at Make Westing Bar, a lunch rice bowl at Hawker Fare, weekend drinking at Bar Dogwood, concerts at The Fox, or burlesque shows at the one and only Café Van Kleef—this neighborhood really has it all. Art Galleries open their doors for extended nightlife hours at the Oakland Art Murmur in Uptown on the first Friday of the month. A few of the pioneer galleries in this area—which are not to be missed—are 21 Grand, the Telegraph Beer Garden (formerly Mama Buzz Café), and Rock Paper Scissors. Notably, Oakland’s speakeasy theater, the beloved Parkway taken residence in Uptown and has made a marvelous comeback in its new location. The theater features comfy couches, beer, wine, and pub food for your movie experience.
One of the largest and newest contributions to Uptown Real Estate is “The Uptown” apartment complex, which is three buildings and five-stories and includes a dog-friendly park called “Fox Square.” Public transportation in the area is a breeze with the 19th street BART station and multiple AC Transit bus stops throughout the neighborhood. With all the available entertainment, amenities and a great location to boot, Uptown is hands down a city-dweller’s dream.
